The indigenous aloe specie, Aloe Ferox, grows abundantly in the Southern Cape, especially in the Albertinia area. The first bitter aloe juice was tapped in the Albertinia area in 1773 and exported to overseas countries for medicinal purposes.
Today aloe leaves are processed locally and aloe products are distributed in South Africa and abroad through a network of distributors.
